When it comes to choosing beginner RC airplanes, jets and RC helicopters, it can prove daunting mainly because of the numerous models available on the market today. When selecting your beginner RC airplanes and jets, steer clear of toy grade airplanes which look cool, and are relatively cheap – yet deliver the same in terms of quality. Instead, go for the hobby grade RC airplanes and jets which may be purchased from your local hobby shop or from online retailers. Beginner RC airplanes and jets mainly comprise of the small electric flyers and the standard trainers.
Slow flyers make great beginner RC airplanes and jets as these are small, light in weight and tend to fly very slow which gives you an opportunity to learn as you fly. These airplanes give you plenty of time to react and hold up relatively well to crashing because of their weight. These airplanes however do not work well with wind so avoid flying on windy days.
The trainer airplanes are on the other hand larger and more powerful beginner RC airplanes which are normally manufactured from balsa wood. These planes and jets are also heavier, faster and will require a larger flying area than the slow flyers. RC trainer airplanes are today powered by batteries and brushless motors, as well as electric motors. It is advisable to become a member of a RC flying club or receive instructions from an experienced pilot to enable you to fly safely, avoid crashing your plane and destroying it.
Some beginner airplanes and RC helicopters can be flown indoors such as in a warehouse or gymnasium. ARF airplanes will require that you get your own battery, charger and radio equipment. NPS or “no power system” means that you will need to supply all the above including the motor for your airplane. RTF or “ready to fly” airplanes enable you to get right into your flying without having to buy or assemble parts.
Don Nails loves playing with RC Helicopters, having grown up with them. His favorite ones are the RC Helicopter models - of which he has over 7 different models, and he enjoys meeting other people who also love RC.
