CSR activities have made an impact on community development
(education, health, social issues) and human resource developments.
In regard to these CSR practices, one cannot overlook the
importance ascribed to community development practices, in a
country like India, which has vast population with more than one
third of the people in acute deprivation and hunger. Corporate
Social Responsibility in India has acquired a new dimension in the
recent years; more and more companies are increasingly realizing
that social responsibility must be an essential part of the wealth
generating process. They have realized that it would enhance the
competitiveness of business and maximize the benefits to the
society.
Challenge the Defects of the Society with Your Aid!
India one of the fastest growing economies, still faces
socio-economic problems like poverty, illiteracy, lack of
healthcare etc. The government and non-profit organizations have
limited resources to tackle these challenges. This setting has
opened up several corporates to contribute towards social
development. Today, CSR in India cannot be approached with just
charity and donations mode, as steps to improve the society has to
be attempted in a very additional organized fashion. It is
necessary for the companies and CSR teams to plot specific
policies, strategies and goals for the CSR programs and put aside
budgets to support them. Employees may be motivated to become the
backbone of the CSR initiatives to volunteer their time and
contribute their skills, and to implement them. CSR Programs might
vary from overall development of a community to supporting specific
causes like education, surroundings, healthcare etc.
Be the Crusader for the Deprived!
Children and young adults of the deprived community, when working
with CSR volunteers are exposed to various kinds of career and
personalities/career minded individuals. These young adults see how
the volunteers act and present themselves and this provides
learning as well. Workshop sessions with vocational and business
skills help and inspire young adults.
Meal –assistance, clothing to the poor can be provided by
anyone, but effective alleviation of poverty or adequate
development is possible only with the aid of CSR. Holistic action
plans like agricultural income, generation scheme, land
cultivation, fruit plantation programs, fodder preservation
schemes, sericulture and water-recycling programs, establishment of
medical and educational centers, adult and literacy programs can be
successfully executed by the CSR. CSR canalso assist non-profit
organizations with fundraising, without which they would not be
able to continue their services.
While India aims and dreams to become an economic super power, it's
vital to understand that 75.6% of our 1.2 billion individuals live
below an internationally accepted bench mark of poverty at USD 2
dollars per day. Only a sense of social mission can enrich the
livelihood of the people with economic strain and this vast change
can only be brought out by Corporate Social Responsibility in
India. Make a social investment, be a social entrepreneur or a
crusader for the poor today, to break this vicious cycle of poverty
and help India to emerge a successful nation!
