The Biography of the Last Wild Indian in North America.... Believed to be the last wild indian in north america, his story with the white man begins in august 1911 in Oroville, California. It was a miracle that he came into the lives of 2 anthropolgists- T.T. Waterman and Alfred Kroeber.
The anthropolgists worked to communicate and learn to understand "Ishi"...For the remander of his life he lived with the white people and told him his story.."Ishi" literally was "A Stone Age Man" the last of a lost tribe. The "Yana" people and other Tribes of Indians were killed and driven to extinction by the white settlers who feared them and stole their lands..
"Ishi" passed away on March 25, 1916.. He couldnt stand all the trials of white civilization and tuberculosis. He had lived a simple life in the wild by making fire with sticks, using bow/arrows and spears he made from branches and arrowheads.. He hunted and fished to eat to survive. He dressed in animal skins to keep warm and built his own shelters to protect himself from the elements.. But in the end it was the White Mans food/ clothing / shelter and lifestyle that finally killed him... A sad, brutal part of our american history, this book is for everyone wanting to learn more of our countrys early history...
Look for it, well worth reading.....
