Some say that leaders are not born, they are made. Every person can be a leader, if he chooses to be one. Through a leadership training seminar, people with leadership potentials are further harnessed into better individuals to fully utilize their skills. In these seminars, they are thought how to act like a leader and what are the values that a leader should have. There are five virtues that a leader should always adhere to.
Punctuality A leader should be the role model of his subordinates. Being punctual is the first step. For instance, when a group handles a project with a deadline, the leader should take the initiative to push the members to meet the deadline. Proper time management is one of the things that should be practiced by leaders. Otherwise, being not on time will rub off on their members and can be a cause of low outputs and failure.
Honesty Trust is one of the things that leaders must gain from their members. However, it is always not easy to do this since a leader must meet certain standards. This is where honesty comes into play. This virtue promotes integrity and transparency in handling situations; lack of honesty can lead to disputes or worse, members’ disbandment. Honesty is one of the essential values taught in leadership training and development programs, especially for high-elected officials.
Compassion While it is important to pursue a certain goal, a good leader must still think and have concern for his subordinates. For instance, pushing his members to work non-stop will make them exhausted thus affecting their outputs. A leader should have sympathy and show consistent concern for his subordinates. Otherwise, they may deem him selfish and uncaring. A good leader must love his members as much as how he loves his work. Compassion brings success into teamwork.
Persistence Leaders are naturally persistent and passionate with their work. However, it may not always be easy to achieve a goal and problems may come along the way. Therefore, it is up to the leader to always stay focused and to make troubleshoots in order to finish the group’s task. Aside from that, a leader should know how to find ways to solve problems.
Charismatic Politicians and religious leaders have something in common- they are both charismatic. This virtue is what draws their members to work for them- it may be the way they talk, or the way they speak. Charisma can be a good way to build relationships and improve the performance of their subordinates. Being a charismatic leader is also taught in a leadership training seminar.
