A man who suffered physical harm that he believes was the fault of his local authority is set to make a personal injury compensation claim. Daryl Phillimore was walking his dogs two years ago near his home when he tripped on what he claims was an uneven paving stone, the Daily Mirror reports.

The 43-year-old alleges that he had informed Hampshire Country Council of the issue before. However, according to the resident, the organisation did nothing to remedy the problem.

After hitting the paving stone, he sought medical attention and was told he had sprained his ankle. However, the next day he was still experiencing considerable pain and so he decided to head back into hospital for further treatment.

While in the medical centre, he developed complications that eventually resulted in the amputation of three of his toes and a quarter of his right foot. Mr Phillimore states that he is no longer able to work due to the physical damage he has suffered. This could have a major impact on his personal finances, particularly over the long term.

Commenting on the incident, he said: "I had complained two or three times that kerb stones and edging stones were broken and a hazard to pedestrians. One day I tripped over one."

He added that it is "only fair" in his opinion that the council, which is headquartered in Winchester, provides him with compensation.

Meanwhile, his father, Tony Phillimore, remarked: "We warned the council. They have only just replaced and repaired the paving stones."

When asked for his response to the allegations, council leader Ken Thornber said: "Proceedings have been issued so we are unable to make any further comment."

It remains to be seen when or not the compensation claims being made by Mr Phillimore will be a success or not.
