Maybe for your established goal, for a chance, or for force, you have the opportunity to study Chinese language. No matter how you begin to learn, you ought to have an interesting story about it, right? And you will find that Chinese learning is much interesting than you think before you get touch with it. In this article, I am so pleased to share two stories of learning Chinese.

The first story is told by an Indonesian boy:

In the eve of my university graduation, my friend asked me: “what do you want to do after graduation, to find a job, or go on with study?” “I want to go to Beijing to learn Chinese!” I replied. My friend was surprised at my project, because at that time, mandarin Chinese was not popular in Indonesia. But that was done with much thought and deliberation.

My parents are Chinese and their conversation is always in Chinese, I can understand them, but I can only reply them in Indonesian. For this reason, they often blame me. Thus, my project of learning Chinese are for their satisfaction.

At school, I got acquainted with many friends and classmates from all over the world. They knew I came from Indonesia, but I am Chinese, and they also know that my Chinese is bad! Why I have a Chinese face, but I can’t speak Chinese well?

The second story is told by a Japanese girl:

When I was in Indonesia, I always feel the development of China. In Indonesia, lots of products were made in China which could found in shops like radios, washing machines and televisions.

What looked like strange then looks like prescience now. I felt fortunately that I made the intellectual choice.

When I was in senior high school, I like American including its culture, super stars, movies and education system, longing to study in the United States. I thought English is spoken all over the world today and it will always been the most common language. Therefore I got on well in English learning. I decided to make English as my major in my future university days. I made every effort and dream come true eventually.

We could choose two language courses, of course, English is my first choice, and I consider German as the other one. But my parents told me I had to choose Chinese course. Their reason is that Asia is developing fast. Especially China is developing at an amazing speed. They told me if I can speak Chinese, I will have a bright future, if not, they would not pay tuition for me.

I couldn’t understand them, but I had to do what they told me to do!

Without doubt, I spent little time to study Chinese, and I did very poorly on my Chinese exam. My mother rushed here and there to chat with my professor, look for Chinese tutor and look into ways to elevate my enthusiasm in Chinese learning after she learnt the truth that I dislike Chinese.

As I saw her suffering, I felt guilty about my Chinese learning. Why I felt it was boring while I didn’t even study the language for a while? It is wise to decide after I had concentrated on learning it! I was not a good daughter, not a good student. From then on, I began studying hard on Chinese course. And Increasingly, I was becoming more and more interested in Chinese culture. Finally, I decided to go aboard to China!

In retrospect, I was so grateful that I had a chance to contact with Chinese language and thanks to my mother!
