If every student is provided a mini guide of thesis writing, its
constitution would become very easier, right?
Following is a miniature guide for writing the methodology chapter
of thesis.
In a separate chapter of your thesis you will write in detail about
your topic, and how you are going to collect information relating
to the topic. This chapter is the dissertation
methodology chapter and should consist of about 200
300 words. It depends on the type of thesis you are writing, but
here is the general idea of its content:
1.Basically, in this chapter you have to gain the trust of the
reader. You will explain your topic, and tell the reader why you
have chosen this particular topic and how it became a fragment of
your interest. Then you will explain the method of your research,
telling the reader how you are going to collect the information
required for the thesis. Explain why this particular method is best
suitable for your topic, and how it relates to the field of
research you are interested in.
2.If possible, you can provide information or reference from some
other researcher. This will give diversity to your research and the
reader will gain more enthusiasm in your topic.
3.While selecting your method of research, you must take extra
care. The procedure must relate to your studies in every aspect.
The procedure of finding information depends on your dissertation
question basically. For instance, you have chosen a topic that is
entirely new and no research has been made on it before, in this
case your research procedure would be exploratory.
4.In this chapter you will gain the trust of the reader by
explaining him how you have collected your information, and how the
sources of your data are reliable. You will also mention references
for your material.
5.Where necessary you will mention your calculations, techniques,
facts, and all the statistics. This increases the credibility of
your extended essay and makes it more readable.
6.Mention how much of the content is based on your assumptions and
how much on facts. If you write this section creatively, the reader
will not only understand your approach to the topic, but will also
be able to relate to the factual data.
7.Make sure that your research is only about one aspect of the
topic. Do not try to cover all the questions, just concentrate on
any one path so that the reader is not confused between the
concepts and you get more space to explain yourself freely.
8.The content of the chapter should be written in your own words.
The reader must not feel that he has read this content before, it
should be written in your own words and in a unique way of
presenting.
9.If there are participants in your dissertation, people who helped
in collecting the required information, then you must mention them
too. Tell the reader how they have contributed in the making of
your thesis.
Many students do not know how
to write dissertation methodology chapter, and some of
them are too shy to consult their professors for it. In this case,
an easy guide becomes the guiding angel for the student.
